Numerical and experimental investigation of the ballistic performance of the armor structure with in-layer deflector against bullets

This is a study to investigate ballistics performance of armor structures with in-layer deflector against projectiles. For this purpose, the structure, which consists v-cross section sheet metal array covered aluminum and steel plates, has been designed optimized. Firstly, numerical simulations were studied using finite-element method (FEM). The ANSYS LS-DYNA FE software used for ballistic analysis. Johnson-Cook constitutive equation damage model behavior armors under impact in simulations. In next step, experimental studies carried out. Penetration depths measured; including magnitude plate bending front target bulging behind it. Comparisons between results finite element analysis (FEA) tests reveal that bullet velocity 868 m/s penetrated target, but could not be at firing speed 631 Furthermore good agreement.
